12. Savoring the Meat (1)
Yu Su’s well-placed kick silenced any further complaints along the way.
Led by Yu Feng, they ventured into the mountains. Today, they were going to cross two entire mountains in search of prey. They had discovered traces of a wild boar yesterday and had already determined its approximate territory. Their goal was to capture it today.
Yu Su hadn’t tasted the succulent flavor of meat for several days. The news of a wild boar made his mouth water uncontrollably.
Yu Da glared at him fiercely. “We were the ones who found that wild boar! Don’t think you can take advantage of it.”
Yu Su ignored him. He believed he deserved his fair share of the hunt based on his skills. If Yu Da dared to cause trouble after catching the wild boar, Yu Su would give him a good beating. No one could stop him from enjoying the meat!
Yu Feng also reprimanded Yu Da, turning his head towards him. “Yu Da, don’t try to cause trouble here!”
Since Yu Feng was the team leader, Yu Da didn’t dare to argue with him.
After crossing two mountains, Yu Feng halted their progress.
“We’ve arrived. We’ll need to pass through the ravine in front of us. That’s where the wild boar roams. Everyone, tread lightly and move forward while hunching over.”
Yu Su and everyone else silently bent their bodies, preparing for an ambush, waiting patiently for two long hours.
Luckily, after those two hours, they finally spotted the wild boar emerging to forage.
“Humph.” The wild boar snorted as it buried its head, unaware of being stalked.
The wild boar was massive and fat, much larger than the domesticated pigs of the future. Yu Su’s gaze fixated on every part of the wild boar’s body, contemplating how to savor it.
The shoulder blade meat would be tender and flavorful, perfect for pan-searing. The loin meat had less fat, making it ideal for stir-frying. There was also pork belly, foreleg meat, hind leg meat, pork neck, pig trotters, and even pig brain. Each cut had its unique and exquisite cooking method, causing his mouth to water at the thought.
Although wild boar meat during this period of essence scarcity had a slightly gamey taste, the particular boar lived in an area abundant with essence. It regularly consumed berries, tender leaves, and grassroots found in the mountains. Therefore, it shouldn’t have a strong gamey flavor.
Yu Su’s stomach growled.
In fact, it wasn’t just Yu Su. When the rest of the hunter team saw the wild boar, they wore the same eager expression. However, no one moved until Yu Feng gave the signal. Only then did they all rush forward.
Yu Su was the first to reach it, running faster than anyone else.
No kidding. What would happen if they failed to catch such an enormous swine and let it escape?
Suddenly, panic engulfed the boar, causing it to dash frantically. Its strength was remarkable, evident by its menacing exposed fangs. A single accidental stab from those teeth would create a dreadful wound!
Even the seasoned members of the hunter team hesitated to confront it head-on. Instead, they attacked from behind and aimed at its vulnerable belly with their spears.
Caught up in the chaos, Yu Su found himself pushed forward, face-to-face with the charging boar!
Yu Su cursed under his breath but remained composed. He relied on his agile footwork and evaded the boar’s attacks with finesse. Seizing the opportunity when the boar turned to face him, he delivered a powerful kick.
The boar let out a piercing shriek of pain as Yu Su sent it sprawling to the ground.
With a spear in hand, Yu Su targeted the boar’s weak spot and thrust it with all his might.
With him straining every muscle, the boar screamed once more.
The others hurried over, witnessing the scene.
Yu Su withdrew the spear, blood splattering onto his attire.
His cold gaze locked onto Yu Da, standing opposite him. It was probably Yu Da who had pushed him earlier.
Covered in blood, the intensity of Yu Su’s eyes made Yu Da shudder and avert his gaze.
Yu Su tore his gaze away. He wouldn’t just let it go. One day, he would let Yu Da pay the price with his life!
But he wouldn’t disclose it to Yu Feng. Firstly, he had no evidence, and secondly, Yu Da was a member of Yu Feng’s team. Clearly, the bond between Yu Feng and Yu Da ran deeper than theirs. Yu Feng would not act against Yu Da for his sake.
He would exact his revenge on Yu Da in his own way.
“Yu Su, thanks to you, we managed to capture the boar swiftly this time,” Yu Feng acknowledged.
Yu Su shyly smiled and asked, “Then can I have a bit more?”
Yu Feng hesitated briefly before nodding. “Sure.”
Although the others weren’t quite pleased, they didn’t voice their objections either. They all witnessed what had transpired, and it was evident that Yu Su had exerted the most effort.
The only dissenting voice belonged to Yu Da, who felt it was unfair.
Yu Feng sternly fixed his gaze on Yu Da and challengingly asked, “If you can also kick the boar over, I’ll let you have more. Can you do that?”
Yu Da was left speechless. Of course, he couldn’t, so he could only glare resentfully at Yu Su.
Deliberately, Yu Su flashed a triumphant smile at him.
And that smile only fueled Yu Da’s anger.
